CDU Conference: Angela Merkel's Show?
The executive of Germany's conservative Christian Democrats, the CDU, is up for re-election at its party conference in Stuttgart. Few see the vote as anything other than a formality. Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, is expected to be overwhelmingly reinstated as CDU party leader.

Her perceived reserve and aloofness has raised concerns from some CDU members seeking a dynamic leader who can meet political opponents head on. But few would dispute the fact that Angela Merkel's leadership style has produced the most successful CDU chief since Helmut Kohl.
